Both timely and critical to strategic decision making, the Oxfordshire Environment Board’s Land Use Vision Round Table, taking place at the Earth Trust on 1 July, will convene senior leadership from a broad spectrum of Oxfordshire organisations - including local authorities, public sector, NGOs, business and research to consider a land use vision, explore collaborative approaches, and spark innovation.
The Challenge
Land is a finite resource that underpins a vast array of societal needs, from food security and clean water, to thriving communities and vital infrastructure. Land will need to work increasingly hard for us to deliver all that we need – food, energy and water security, health and wellbeing, nature recovery and climate mitigation, and places for people to live and work.
Currently, land-use decisions are often made without a comprehensive understanding of their long-term impacts.
Climate change will mean we need to reshape and rethink what is possible and at the same time we need to work together to integrate and enable innovation for people and nature to thrive in Oxfordshire. It’s hard to hold all these issues in mind at the same time – but that is our sustainable development challenge. How do we rise to meet it?
